It's not a popularity contest.

A desire to exhibit "humble leadership" often manifests itself in the pursuit of consensus and a "constructive" working environment. Which is great. Except that it often prevents important but unpopular decisions being made.

Many of history's greatest leaders, from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, were often extremely unpopular. That didn't make them wrong.

I agree with the "Rockstar of Consulting" Alan Weiss when he says that often, the most effective form of leadership is a benevolent dictatorship.

That means, for example, wanting the best for everyone, even if it means firing them.

What unpopular leadership decisions have you been putting off? It's time to bite the bullet.

Need help making some tough decisions? Let’s talk about it.
