Having the “courage of your convictions” can be dangerous if those convictions turn out to be wrong, or if you need to change them for perfectly valid reasons. Much more important is to have conviction in your courage, which you can then direct in an agile way, appropriate to the circumstances of any particular situation or decision.
No, that doesn’t mean you have to “do one thing every day that scares you” as countless self-help gurus continue to push as a tactic, but which leads to people doing some pretty dumb stuff.
However, it does mean checking your self-talk and reinforcing your confidence that you can achieve your objectives by focusing on the evidence of your past successes.
